OK, there are a gazillion websites that have job ads. On those websites, there are a squillion ads for blogging jobs, writing jobs, editing jobs, SEO jobs, web design jobs, social media jobs, online marketing jobs, copywriting jobs and so on and so on… and most of those job ads are shit.

Am I being harsh? Yes, but I’m totally justified. Bear with me. They’re shit because…
- Some of them pay peanuts. More insultingly, some of them expect to pay less than the price of a bag of peanuts per post.
- Some of them give an extensive list of essential experience, qualifications, and personal characteristics they expect to find in the candidate, e.g. “You must be brilliantly witty, write fast, have perfect spelling and grammar, be educated to at least degree level AND have a good sense of humour,” but then don’t tell you anything about the job. Though I suppose you could respond saying “Hi, I’m PERFECT for you, now what the fuck do you want me to do?”
- Some of them demand a free trial article as part of your application, often without even offering payment on publication or on hiring. That means you could spend hours on your application and earn nothing – not worth the trouble to most freelancers unless the job on offer is really outstanding.
- Most irritating of all are the ads that incorporate all of the above, asking for a blogging genius to send them some free content in exchange for the mere possibility of earning a wage even chimps would throw back in your face.
Anyway, here is a list of places/people/communities I recommend checking out if you’re looking for ways to make money blogging for others. They’re all places I have either found good work, hired someone, or had recommended to me by other writers whose opinions I trust.
- People Per Hour
- ProBlogger
- Copify
- Textbroker
- Freelance Writing Gigs
- Demand Media
- Yahoo! Contributor Network
I’ll keep adding more details as I go along. If you know a great place to find blogging jobs, let us in on it! Leave me a note in the comments box, or email sophie@invisiblogger.com.
